Back in the saddle...

Three weeks ago Anne and I bought her a new KHS mountain bike at Rubber Soul which provided me the motivation to overhaul my bike and start riding my bike again. After two weeks of cleaning, polishing, torquing, etc. Replacing the tires, tubes, handlebars, stem, grips, brake pads, and all the cables my 1994 GT RTS-3 is back in service. Since last week I have ridden five times totalling 50 miles. I have been riding from my house near Teague and Willow along the Palo Alta trail to Shaw and Clovis and back. With every ride I am increasing my average speed and feeling less fatigued at the end of the ride. My immediate goal is to ride 15 miles at a time and maintain 14 MPH. My mid-range goal is to get in a good enough condition that I can start riding off-road again.

Seth, You posted a question about camping at Mono at my blog. Sorry I couldn't figure out how to respond there so doing it here. Something of a backdoor approach but what the hey! I know of no Forest Service campgrounds on Mono Lake and can't recall any developed campground, public or private, on its shores. However, Lee Vining is close and did have motels. Mono Lake looks like a great place for you and your camera (really nice photos). You might want to look at the Inyo NF's Reds Meadow area or Convict Lake. Sorry about my lack of skills. Happy camping, suzid@forestcamping.com
